Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October
Canadian Thanksgiving is a Celebration of Gratitude, Harvest & Togetherness. Traditions behind Thanksgiving in Canada come from several different histories. Indigenous peoples across what is now Canada held ceremonies and gatherings giving thanks for successful harvests and the abundance of the land long before European settlement. European traditions of harvest celebrations were later brought to Canada by settlers.
Today, Thanksgiving varies but a traditional dinner often includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
It's an opportunity to slow down, appreciate what we have, connect with people and make sure others don't feel forgotten or alone.
That's why community gatherings and Food & Friends events can be so meaningful. A shared table can turn strangers into acquaintances and acquaintances into friends.
